Developing a passion
Way back in ye’ olde days of film cameras…when socks had stripes, and were worn as high as hairdos…Danny ventured into the wonderful world of photography. His wishes came true on Christmas morning of 1985, when he unwrapped his first SLR camera…the Nikon FG with a stock 35 mm lens. A far cry from his old Kodak Disc camera, it launched his passion for photography into the stratosphere.
Lawns were mowed, and allowances saved to bankroll new lenses, filters, autowinders and camera bags. And film…lots and lots of film. He shuttled roll after roll to Eckerd’s Drug Store for processing…at first by bicycle, later by moped, and finally by car…honing skills that would shape his life in the decades to come.
The art behind photography
Danny studied art, design and photography at Rowan University in the early 90’s…back when a Mac was called a Macintosh, and most of them were still black and white. He cut his teeth on Photoshop version 1.0 and the other leading edge image, art and design applications of the day, and quickly developed a proficiency for advanced image editing, color concepts and artistic composition. Upon graduating with a BA, he entered the world of design and digital imagery.
He worked for a decade in digital prepress and freelance design/photography, where he learned the intricacies of reproducing art in print. Later, he moved on to become an art director at an advertising agency…specializing in Photoshop image manipulation, and the marketing aspects of design and digital images, and how they best appeal to consumers.
Danny has now spent over thirty years in the field of artistic imagery…capturing, creating, collaging and crafting eye-catching images for personal, print and marketing use. Through it all, photography has been a staple of his career. Now, as a freelance photographer, he enjoys the freedom of working with both private and professional clients, translating their vision into pixels to tell their story.
The lens is only the beginning
Danny is skilled at many types of photography. Portraiture–including family, corporate and environmental portraiture–is his specialty. Capturing emotional images that transcend the two dimensional plane to tell a compelling visual story is his greatest passion. He is also skilled in architectural, landscape and product photography, with the marketing sense to know what makes an image speak to an audience.
Whatever the genre, one of his greatest and most unique skills is image manipulation. Composition and lighting are only the first step. The magic often lies in post-production, where images are honed and enhanced to convey their best and most impactful message. Sometimes, it’s a matter of color tones and hues. Other times, drastic composition, collage, illustration and stylization editing is necessary to tell the entire story. Danny is a master of the craft of image manipulation–both the simple and the stunningly complex.
